Review of academic records
Academic records are reviewed after grades become final at the end of the fall, spring, and summer term. Determination of academic status is based upon all credit hours completed (transfer and IU graded hours) and IU Cumulative GPA (CGPA). A student's IU CGPA includes courses taken at all IU campuses but does not include other transfer work. Replacing a grade using the Extended X policy may affect academic status, but only if the X petition is filed before grades are final. Students will be notified of their academic status via email.
Spring 2020: Due to COVID-19, no students will be placed on critical probation and no students will be academically dismissed or terminated at the conclusion of the Spring 2020 term.
Academic Good Standing
A CGPA of 2.0 or higher in the University Division is considered to be Academic Good Standing.
The University Division routinely acknowledges individuals who demonstrate outstanding academic performance Fall or Spring semesters by placement on the Dean's List. Qualifying honorees earn a minimum semester GPA of 3.7 and complete at least 12 graded credit hours.
All students with an IU CGPA below a 2.0 are placed on some form of academic probation. The only way to get off of probation is for a student to raise his or her IU CGPA to a 2.0 or above.
The type of probation a student is on (probation vs. critical probation) is based on the student's IU CGPA and class standing (in other words, credit hours).
|Credit Hours Completed*||Probation if IU CGPA is less than 2.00 and is||Critical Probation if IU CGPA is|
|1-18||1.33 or higher||less than 1.33|
|19-36||1.63 or higher||less than 1.63|
|37-45||1.83 or higher||less than 1.83|
|46+||less than 2.00|
*To calculate credit hours completed, you will need to include your IUGPA hours (not hours earned) and your transfer hours.
