Plan for Summer

Meet your goals with a summer plan

Taking classes during the summer can be a smart strategy to meet your goals for your degree timeline. Meet with your academic advisor to discuss the best options for summer coursework for you.

At IU Bloomington

  • Most students can start registering for summer classes in late-March. See your Enrollment Date for summer in your Student Center or iGPS Plan to find out when you can start enrolling.
  • Use Class Registration to view upcoming summer course offerings.
  • See the Official Academic Calendar for exact session dates, as well as important registration, drop, and refund deadlines.
  • See Student Central on Union to estimate tuition and fees for summer courses.

At other Indiana University Campuses

  • Apply to other IU Campuses as a visiting or temporary transfer student.
  • Go to Class Registration, and click the settings icon in the top-right of the screen to change your "Institution" see course offerings at other IU campuses.
  • Use the IU Online website to find online course offerings.
  • Meet with your advisor to make sure the course will count toward your Bloomington degree.
  • Call the orientation office for the campus where you intend to take summer classes. You could be required to attend an orientation program/event or be required to complete placement exams in math, foreign language or English composition.
  • You do not need to reapply to return to Bloomington if you applied as a visiting (or temporary) intercampus transfer.
  • You do not need to have a copy of your summer transcript sent to Bloomington. You have one IU transcript for all campuses attended.

At non-IU Colleges or Universities

Arrange to have the transcript from your summer school sent to the IU Bloomington Office of Admissions as soon as grades are posted for your summer course or course(s).
