Parker's story
I entered my first year of college very nervous because I heard everyone talking about their majors and I hadn’t decided on one yet. I knew what my interests and academic strengths were, but I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do. After one semester of courses, I was still feeling very undecided and I went to my academic advisor to discuss majors and classes. She suggested that I take a class for exploratory students called, “Mapping Your Future”, which is taught by a UD academic advisor and a CDC Career Coach. I decided to take the class and I’m glad I did because it allowed me to explore different majors at IU and take a deeper look at my passions and goals. By the end of the class and after talking with my advisor multiple times throughout my first year, I felt confident to declare my major in Biology. If I could give advice to incoming students, I would tell them not to panic about their major. IU offers so many majors and if you can take some time to think through your interests, passions, and skills, you’ll find a path that best fits you.
