Academic Advising

University Division’s professional advisors are available to provide information, support, and advice as you adjust to academic life at IU Bloomington.

As a UD student, you are assigned to a specific advisor. If you have your advisor’s name, you can learn more about him or her in the Meet the Advisors section. If you don’t know who your advisor is, call 812-855-6768 or stop in any UD advising office during walk-in hours. UD advising offices are conveniently located all across the campus.

UD advisors:

  • Are interested in you as a unique individual
  • Know the requirements for all IU Bloomington undergraduate majors and minors 
  • Are experts on the campus’ academic policies, procedures and resources
  • Will work with you to support your academic progress and success
  • Are committed to your growth as an independent decision maker

Your UD advisor will:

  • Listen to you
  • Answer your questions
  • Discuss your academic interests, concerns, and options
  • Help you set educational and personal goals
  • Provide you with personalized advice
  • Introduce you to the academic landscape at IU Bloomington
  • Teach you about degree requirements and campus policies and procedures
  • Discuss your academic progress and assist you in finding tutoring and other forms of support when necessary
  • Help you find activities to enhance your undergraduate experience

UD advisors offer:

  • Appointments (30 minutes) that you can sign up for electronically
  • Walk-in advising (sessions are limited to 10 minutes) at a variety of locations
  • Phone-in advising for quick questions 
  • Contact over email—always use your IU email account
